Ottawa-raised and Toronto-based pianist Matt Newton is an up and coming artist and has been described as "...a promising composer and an uncompromising player moving in the right direction" (Peter Hum--The Ottawa Citizen).  Matt has performed with such respected musicians as Kevin Turcotte, Kelly Jefferson, Jim Vivian, and Dave Young.  He leads his contemporary quartet, however, the music is approached as a collective.  NYC-based saxophonist Petr Cancura (Danilo Perez, Bob Moses, Kathleen Edwards, and Cecil McBee), a repeated guest adds a unique and soulful voice to the group.  Rhythm section members Dan Fortin (Serena Ryder, Mike Ruby, Alex Goodman) and Ethan Ardelli (Jane Bunnett, David Virelles, Nancy Walker) are both in demand musicians and capable of going in any direction.  The band creates a wide spectrum of music, ranging from songs that are lyrical and free to ones with a strong rhythmic drive. As well as some favourite jazz standards, they will be playing original music from Matt's recent critically acclaimed CD "Push".
